A community meeting to discuss the creation of a new National Register Historic District in Jeffries Point.

When: Wednesday, April 4, 2018 6 pm – 7 pm

Where: East Boston Neighborhood Health Center Training Building (250 Sumner Street), 1st Floor Conference Room.

The Boston Landmarks Commission and the Mass. Historical Commission have determined that part of Jeffries Point surrounding Brophy Park/Belmont Square is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places as a district (see image below for the proposed “Belmont Historic District” boundaries in blue). Designation will represent national recognition of the value of Jeffries Point’s historic architecture.

This is a preliminary meeting to inform residents and answer questions about the proposed district before moving forward with the nomination. Staff from the Boston Landmarks Commission and the Mass. Historical Commission will take questions and explain what the National Register is, the effects and benefits of listing on the Register, and what the designation will mean for Jeffries Point (short answer: National Register designation offers certain benefits to the community while placing no restrictions on homeowners using private funds to work on their homes).

  • Suffolk Downs Redevelopment Project – DEFERRED until April Meeting. Update on redevelopment plans. HYM, project developer.

Community Preservation Act Informational Meeting: March 8th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the East Boston High School. Questions about what the CPA is and how it will affect East Boston? Wondering what kinds of projects can apply for CPA funds? Have an idea for a CPA funded project in East Boston? Representatives from Boston’s new CPA Committee will be on hand to answer questions.

General announcement: The Jeffries Point Neighborhood Association is accepting nominations to the JPNA Planning & Zoning Committee.  This is an opportunity for your voice to not only be heard, but to hold a key role in making sure development projects, both large and small, get the attention they deserve!  Several openings are available.  The committee meets on one Wednesday per month, please see the 2018 calendar for details.  As a committee member, you’ll work with owners, developers and their attorneys to prepare for P&Z meetings and will help assess and organize zoning agendas for voting. Jeffries Point Neighborhood Association P&Z Meeting held Wednesday February 21s

February Agenda covered:

120 Everett Street, project to update living space.  Owner Dan Crupi reviewed the addition he and his wife want to add for their living space by finishing their basement.  Their current living space is 700 square feet.  The project is compliant with the city zoning requirements except for the Floor Area Ratio (FAR).  Floor plans were reviewed and a copy was provided to the JPNA Board for records.
